Nurturing Daycare in Lethbridge for Curious, Confident Learners
Daily routines and curriculum planning follow the children’s needs and development. Examples are shared with parents through story Storypark updates. Families are invited to participate in their child’s learning through shared comments on Storypark.
High-quality, early learning provides responsive environments where time, space, materials and participation are considered. Educators design safe, stimulating environments that are warm, comfortable, pleasing and central to children’s experiences.
Educators will have knowledge that helps them to understand the kinds of play that will support each child’s care, sense of belonging, holistic play-based goals and dispositions to learn. When creating responsive environments for children to learn through play, Educators will observe and reflect on their image of the child as a mighty learner and citizen. Educators will participate and develop a practice of relationships with the children as co-learners, co-researchers, and co-imaginers of play.
Daycare
Serving families with children ages 12 months up to and including kindergarten age.
The Children's House Child Care Society is a child care centre through the Government of Alberta that offers early learning and child care opportunities for families in Lethbridge and the surrounding areas.
We believe that:
Every child is unique, has the right to individually express themselves and contribute their own values and culture to their learning.
Children are able to assess their own risk and test their theories in their own time and share their knowledge in a safe place.
Children are capable and confident, mighty learners and citizens.
Children have the right to feel safe, supported, and have their individual needs met while having long periods of uninterrupted play. Our educators build caring relationships with families and the community creating places of vitality for children.
Children are co-researchers with families and educators and are valued to ask questions and seek answers.
Children are able to make their own independent decisions and learn through trial and error while being respected.
We have 4 classrooms at Children's House for your children to explore and grow in.
Birch Room
Here you will find our infants and toddlers (11 months-2.5 years old) exploring and creating as they co-learn and build relationships with their peers and educators. Partnering with families, our educators support the children as they reach milestones in their younger ages, such as walking, language development, learning how to feed themselves, and moving their bodies safely.
Maple Room
You will find our 2.5-3.5-year-old citizens participating in large and small group activities where the children are able to play, create, and imagine together. Through their play and explorations, the children are developing a strong and resilient learner identity. Educators partner with families to support the children through new discoveries of calculated cause and effect, toilet learning, and peer-to-peer problem solving. As their verbal capacity expands, this is typically where the wonderful world of Why… Why… Why… questions start.
Evergreen Room
Home to our 3.5-4.5-year-old citizens. Educators co-learn and co-research right alongside the children as interests and ideas are expressed and shared. Working together, their educators nurture those interests and strengthen them as the children make sense of their world. Children add more collaborative play and role play to their exploration as they relive their experiences and work through the meaning of various social interactions in a safe, play-based manner.
Oak Room...
...is a mixed class of pre-k and children registered in kindergarten.
Here you will find an environment where the children are able to co-construct their knowledge in relationships with their peers, educators and environment. Lots of hands-on exploration and investigation of theories happen as the children test and retest their acquired knowledge and skills.
Our oak room provides the unique experience of pre-k children (acorns) being able to listen and observe the kindergarten during instructional time.
All of our classrooms enjoy time outdoors with space to move and be in nature. We also take the children on spontaneous walks in the community to expand their world and to provide interaction with the community around us.
We hold to an open-door policy that invites families to come spend time with their child at the centre if they would like to.

The Storypark App
We are currently using the Storypark app for most communications between families and centre. Storypark is also used to inform families of their children's learning that is occurring throughout their day. You will see your child co-learning, co-imagining, and co-researching with their educator and peers in their environment. You will also see your child's Emergent Curriculum evolving through our educator reflective planning, which you can also add comments and pictures to.
