Kindergarten Program - Inspiring Young Minds in Lethbridge
For over 40 years, The Children’s House Child Care Society has incorporated a registered, private Alberta Education Kindergarten into our centre.
The Alberta ED Kindergarten Program runs from September - June. To enroll in our Kindergarten Program, children must turn 5 by the end of December of the current school year. Program hours are Monday - Thursday, 8:30-11:45, which ensures 475 hours of curriculum are met and consistent with the kindergarten requirements from the Government of Alberta. Additional assistance to meet goals in kindergarten can be implemented during before and after school care onsite (if registered).
The Children’s House Kindergarten Program implements the most current and updated Alberta Education curriculum requirements.
Our Kindergarten program strives to provide children with an atmosphere for learning based on individual needs, learning styles and child-led interests.
A small class size allows for strong relationships to be built between educators and children, thus nurturing a healthy learning environment.
Following the Kindergarten Requirements and in connection with FLIGHT (Alberta’s Curriculum Framework), our Kindergarten Program offers a play-based education that allows children to engage in learning experiences that support them in their current developmental stage. By implementing techniques such as co-learning, co-researching and investigating together, the children and teacher use FLIGHT to support Alberta Education curriculum requirements as a method of expanding and extending learning possibilities.
A 10-week music program on-site invites the children to creatively explore literacy and physical motor skills with the use of rhythm, movement and music.
We seek to build strong community roots by spending time in the community with regular off-site explorations.
Partnering with the Galt Museum allows the children to explore heritage and culture with hands-on activities and interaction with the Galt Educational Instructors.
Our class visits the Edith Cavell Care Centre regularly for intergenerational visits with the “grandmas and grandpas” allowing relationships to be nurtured and empathy developed.
Several times throughout the school term, our class engages in “Indian Battle Park Exploration Days”. These full-day off-site excursions allow children to freely explore, investigate and research in an outdoor classroom setting to experience things like seasonal changes and local animal habitats. These days are often coined as “BEST DAYS EVER!!” by the children.
As a method of instilling empathy and compassion towards others in the community, our class participates in several initiatives aimed at teaching about the challenges faced by others in their community. We participate in food drives and clothing drives that support local organizations like the Lethbridge Food Banks, Streets Alive, and My City Care.
Like public schools, we hold regular parent-teacher interviews, celebrations of learning, and family invitations to events in our classroom.
To support a healthy body that can focus on learning, snacks and lunch that follow Canada’s Food Guide are prepared and provided on site.
Childcare is available before and after kindergarten educational hours in the Children’s House Daycare Program. Parents can drop off their child in the morning and pick up at the end of the day, eliminating the need for additional transitions and transportation between different locations of school and childcare. This also helps foster strong relationships and ease anxiety for children.

Storypark – Real-time Updates
We are currently using our Storypark App for communications with families. If you have any questions, please contact us and we will be happy to answer your questions.
Storypark is also used to inform families of their children's learning that is occurring through their day. You will see your child co-learning, co-imagining, and co-researching with their educator and peers in their environment. You will also see your child's Emergent Curriculum and how they are meeting the Alberta Education requirements evolve through our educator reflective planning which you can also add comments and pictures to.
